OH my Gosh I just watched the U.S. 400 M relay swim team win the gold medal. I was jumping up and down screaming as the final swimmer came down the stretch. He came from behind to win it and it was so awesome. The France team gave the U.S. team something to prove tonight because one of their swimmers said "they were going to smash the American's" NOT.. ;D It was awesome wasn't it. I very much enjoyed it. I'm rooting for Michael Phelps anyway.

I also just watched the syncronized diving for men and I think the judges totally were favoring the Chinese men. Yes they were good but so were some of the others that consistently were given lower marks

My sister was saying the same thing about the judges, but the announcers were just as bad.

I hope the rest of you around the world feel free to hop in here and cheer for your Olympians as well!! ;D I know that the majority of people on this forum are from the U.S. But I also know we have quite a few other countries represented here.
Hey, Gabi...I read where volleyball is really big in Brazil. And Brazil has the defending gold medal men's beach volleyball team trying for a repeat. And the indoor men's volleyball team is a favorite for gold. So sounds like you have a chance for a couple golds at least.
And I know Australia's women's water polo team is a strong contender, along with the U.S. team, for gold in that sport.
And Canada has a really impressive female hurdler (who went to school right down the road from me at the U of Illinois in Champaign.) And a really good male gymnast too.
I just love to see all the competitors from all over the world. It's so much fun.
So, everyone, feel free to jump in here. Everyone should be proud of their Olympians!!

I've been watching non-stop, too. Michael Phelps is amazing (and not too bad too look at, either.... ) I love all the swimming, diving, gymnastics, etc. events. I also enjoy track & field.

I just watched Michael Phelps swim. It is amazing! He was in second for a majority of the race and at the last minute he just darted to first!

Our delegation is super tiny, only 22 athletes (well, we are a tiny island). Our biggest hopes are in boxing with the Arroyo twins, one of them will be fighting tomorrow, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I really enjoy having a chance to see such a wide variety of sports. As I was watching a bit of field hockey I was thinking, eww I remember having to play that in gym class. On the other hand I would have liked to have seen more fencing.

Hi Carol, You're right about you said, I think these are our chances to get medals, so I'll keep my fingers crossed!! I think we have chances in indoor women's volleyball and soccer (both men/women). But only time will tell. Unfortunately our country don't give the support that competitors need... Only the guys who have conditions ($ - from their pockets) go abroad to be trained... It's a shame and a pity, our country is big, has so many inhabitants and has so small chances . Sorry to bother you guys ! Good luck for all countries, specially those are located in the Americas

OMG I just saw on our local news that the 9 yr old chinese girl that sang during the opening ceremony was lipsyncing to the song and that the voice was that of another chinese girl. The reason they gave was that the girl whos voice it actually was didn't fit the look they wanted but her voice did. How sad for that little girl How can you tell a little girl you got a great voice but your ugly. I feel so sad for her cuz now the story is out in the news so it will be embarrassing for both the little girls.

I didn't see what they were meaning at all. Here's the quote from a Chinese official: "The national interest requires that the girl should have good looks and a good grasp of the song and look good on screen," Chen said. "Lin Miaoke was the best in this. And Yang Peiyi's voice was the most outstanding." The national interest?!! What? Poor thing. I'm afraid good looks are too important all over the world though.

I think strange things happens there...
I saw on TV a group of teenagers that worked in a jeans factory, making pants and the hole group won $0.95 for making 30 pairs of pants... They work for 15, 16 hours a day, live in the factory and they have to fight to receive their payments after 2 months...
I felt sorry for those girls...

Yeah, it's really horrible to hear about things like that. I've heard so many stories of situations like that. And then I think of how much money they spent on that opening ceremony and how much that money could've helped their people.
