Yesterday, my daughter and I were running errands after school and there was a closing banner on the front of our local Toys R Us store.
Unfortunately, we did not have time to stop in and check it out.
Does anyone know if Toys R Us is going out of business??
I didn't see any recent news articles about it anywhere, there are some old articles from last year on the internet, but nothing recent.

Just because the TRU near you is closing, doesn't mean the entire corporation is going under.
Heh, I think that sort of thing would be all over the news. They are the biggest toy store in the country.

They are the biggest toy store in the country. I guess I was just taken by surprise when I saw the closing banner, that Toys R Us has been there since I was a kid and I am so sad to see it go. As I mentioned, I didn't see any news coverage on it and just wondered if anyone found a similiar situation.

Hi, there The TRU in my neighborhood closed 3 or 4 years ago...it is now a BRU. I wish it was still here it was the better TRU of the 3 I've ever shopped in my area...also the closest. The other 2 are 45 minutes away.

our TRU closed three or four years ago as well, Mommy&Me. It turned into a Harley Davidson dealer, it even has the "entrance" and "exit" signs in the same lettering but painted a different color. I wish my sister and I were into LPS and had taken advantage of it before it had gone under. :/

We have 3 TRU here in Columbus and 1 is going out of business. However they are building a brand new store in north Columbus so I don't think the entire company is going under or I would hope they wouldn't be building a brand new store but you never know.

Being an employee of TRU, I can safely say we aren't going out of business, quite the opposite infact. The company is most likely just working on their restructuring of our locations. Less profitable stores, or stores that don't own their own real estate generally are the first to go. On the plus side, they are opening plenty of new stores, some of which might be not far from previous ones that closed. They just put one back up in Alaska, where we had previously closed one.
