Have you guys all noticed that the description on the Collectible Pets on BBTS and EE both mention chase pets? For those who don't know what that is, it's a boy-toy term that indicates special rare pets in different paint jobs. So, like, the standard flamingo might be pink, but the chase will be white, or the chase will have an extra accessory, or (in the WORST case scenario) the chase will BE the flamingo (or some other new critter). And chase items tend to be quite rare, shipping in only 1/10 shipments (or sometimes fewer), so they end up being a bit of a headache for completists who want to collect the whole line You almost always have to go to ebay to get them because scalpers snap them up. I'm trying not to be filled with dread .

Kevin, I'm a little confused. Why would you be dreading getting an extra pet?
EDIT: Ok, now I understand. Thanks for the clarification.

Sorry, just to clarify further - the pets are only in like, 1 out of 100 shipments (that's exaggerating slightly, but they're really rare, and usually go for $$$$ on ebay).

Well, as long as they don't give the chase pets numbers. They're not as hard to ignore if they don't have numbers. At least for me.

Ilfiorelaluna.... Not sure if I understand this correctly...each pet from the new collectible series might be different in some way? Like the flamingo I get from BBTS might be different than the one I pick up from Walmart?

Sort of... Like, you'll have to hunt down the "chase" version (if there is one) of the flamingo if you want it. Most of the flamingos will be one color, but the chase version will be another color, and you will most likely never see that one at the stores - you'll have to buy it off ebay, because it will only be in 10% or less of the boxes that ship to stores, so scalpers will buy them up. And I'm sure if they're doing chase versions, they'll give them unique numbers just so that collectors have to buy them to fill in the gaps.

I enjoy chase figures. Finding them, not buying them off eBay. When we were actively collecting Marvel Legends, it was always a big thrill to find chase or rare figures. Especially when you find "hidden" ones. There was times when I'd find them on the very top shelf, or hidden behind other toys. Sometimes workers will hide them with the intent of buying them after their shift. Or collectors will see it, not have the funds, and hide it until they come back. It's a thrill to find one.

Thanks, Mrs. E - I'm glad someone's had a good experience with them. I've never actually tried to find one in stores - it just seems like it would be so time consuming. I've just read so much on action figure forums about how hard it is to find them that it makes me wonder what it'll be like in LPS land .

So let me see if I'm getting this straight. A chase pet doesn't mean that you're getting an extra pet in your case, but that one of the regular pets will be different in some way from what it's supposed to be. Is that correct?

Yep, and if you want the different one, be prepared to hunt for it at LOTS of stores, or pay a premium on ebay. (Unless you happen to buy a case from BBTS and get lucky and it happens to be in there, in which case you'll just need to buy the regular colored one.)
