I am a fairly new collector, but in this short amount of time I've purchased ALOT of pets. All of them have been new in package. But after looking at these threads and peoples collections I am very tempted to start opening them all!
I like the way they look in the package, but they are still so cute out. I know it is a personal preference, but I thought Id ask fellow collectors the pros and cons of keeping them in the package and/or letting them free.

You should ask redmacy (I think that it her name) because her collection looks beautiful with all unopened pets.

Yes redracyma is her name and I agree her collection looks great, but I say open them if you have the room to display them all. I think a curio cabinet would be a great way to display your pets if your an adult collector, but some adult collectors collect a playset or two to display their pets.
Opening the packages. Pros: setting the cuties free, of course. Cons: possibility of losing or damaging a pet?
Keeping them in the packages. Pros: They're more valuable, I suppose. Cons: Never getting to hold them and play with their accessories, etc.
My 5 yr old is the collector and she plays with them all.

Holy Moly! That looks like a LPS store, lol! Wonderfully huge collection! So many! I don't think I could stand not opening them, though! Very impressive!

Why not? Buy them to enjoy them! I can't see it any other way.

I personally keep my collection unopened, because I think that they display nicely in packaging (and some are really fancy), it's easier to wipe clean a box than each individual pet if they are not played with often or sits on shelf for awhile. if you want to resell, it might be worth more especially if it's rare. Also once you open a packet and decide later that you like it better 'new' then you may not be able to get that set again or have to pay higher price. The cons would be that it takes up lots of room, if you decide to open them then I suggest opening some first and see if you like it better. I like the look of them out of packages too, so I would try and get them secondhand in lots, already out of packaging. If they are cheap new (sale) I get doubles then I open one.

We open all of them -- my daughter has a huge collection, and we keep them in little storage boxes on her shelf. More fun that way!

I prefer to open ours just simply because I like to hold each pet and get a better look at them at a closer view. That is how I truly enjoy having them around. I think it is just a preference. I don't keep my dolls in boxes either.
