What a neat story, Anna! Here are two of my treasures: The silver "quill" pin is from my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. It really means a lot to me, and holds a lot of memories of all the great times I had with my sorority sisters. The triangle pin is my grandmother's sorority pin. It is real gold and pearls, and over 60 years old. I actually began pledging at the same sorority my freshman year at Western Illinois University, before my major caused me to transfer to University of Iowa, who didn't have a Sigma Kappa on campus. My grandmother gave this pin to me after my grandpa passed away last February, so it really is a precious, sentimental treasure. Technically I shouldn't have it, but am keeping it as a heirloom. Hoping that one day Bella will have the opportunity to wear one of the pins, since she'll be a Legacy at either house. ( I put the quarter in the picture, so you can see just how tiny they are! ) Very nice heirlooms I have no idea off the top of my head where my sorority pin is.. probably in the same box with my pledge book and paddle ;D I wasn't a cheerleader or anything.. but still decided to Rush and join a Sorority... I think there is a big sterotype about what "type" of girl is in a sorority.. I was more on the Shy side, but being in something like that helps.. and you have to keep your grades up etc. Did you live in the Sorority house? I did for a year.. and my roommate was one of my pledge sisters and we are still BEST Friends to this day.. so that was the greatest and best thing I personally took away from being in a sorority.. I was also Housing Director for that year.. (I did not like that) I enjoyed Greek Week the most, it was always fun. I went to Eastern Michigan University... Sigma Kappa's and AXiD's are on that Campus .. I considered both of them when I went through Rush, but decided on Alpha Sigma Tau. Looking back, I'm not sure if I would do it all over, except that that was how I met my best friend of the last 20 years. I partied too much and didn't put into my education what I should of ... but there were some good times... good times... All the Formals, parties, frat boys (ha ha), Rush, Greek week, trips, Homecoming, alot of memories. If I can figure out my scanner I will scan in and show you some pictures.. I'm alot older than you though... I pledged in the Fall of 1988 and became an alumni in late 1992...

Anna!! That book is gorgeous! I love the pictures. Now I want to find the story, for Bella. It looks like such a sweet little book! Very nice heirlooms I have no idea off the top of my head where my sorority pin is.. probably in the same box with my pledge book and paddle ;D I wasn't a cheerleader or anything.. but still decided to Rush and join a Sorority... I'm alot older than you though... I pledged in the Fall of 1988 and became an alumni in late 1992... Thank you!! I love them. They are so tiny! I also have a recognition pin, a new member pin, and our "Chose Children" philanthropy pin.... proud ΑΞΔ here! I'd love to see your pin! One of my best HS friends joined TriDelt, and her pin was gorgeous, I was so jealous, haha! Ours is relatively simple, but I like the idea behind it (our public motto: "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword!") Haha.... what were my girls like on your campus? We didn't have Alpha Sigma Tau at Iowa, but I think we did at Western. Rush at WIU was different for me, because I knew I wanted to be a SigKap (so I didn't really pay attention to the others) whereas at Iowa, I really took the time to figure out where I belonged best. I lived in the sorority house for two years, and loved it! Always someone to do something with, whether it be shopping, watching tv, going out, going to work-out, or studying! As social chair, I did the parties and formals! So much fun. I loved meeting folks from other houses (especially the cute fraternity boys, like you said, haha!) and it was just a blast. I partied way too much, too, but I think that is normal at U of Iowa, anyway! I strongly recommend it to anyone, especially for life-long friendships! Did you go through hazing? I did with Sigma Kappa, as I was starting to pledge there, and I actually loved it. AXiD has a zero-hazing policy, so my pledge-class took it upon ourselves to do some of the fun stuff (Letter raids on the fraternity houses, ah! So much fun!)

Wow, that sounds like the flood you went through must've been something rough for your parents, too... It's good they took you to your grandparents; that could be a lot to go through at 9 y/o! That is SO sad about her vintage paper dolls - I think I'd cry! Were you really 9 in 1993? If so, that makes you (1993-9=1984) 24 (or will be this year)- is that right? If so that makes you all of 1 year older than me.... you look a bit older from your pictures, although it's quite possible... is that right? Lol. If so, add that as another thing we have in common. --- Thanks so much for the pictures, Anna! That book is gorgeous! You REALLY lucked out!

I guess I was actually 10, when the flood happened in May, going on 11! Sorry for the bad math on my part! Brain-fart. I'm a 1982 baby -- going to be 26 at the very end of July! My brother just turned 21 in January, so he's a little closer to your age. My mom managed to save a few of the paperdolls, but I remember how upset she was when she had to toss the destroyed ones out. Luckily we only had about a foot of water in our (finished) basement, so it was mostly just things that were on the floor in cardboard boxes that got damaged. Now they've got everything stored in plastic bins!

hehe, np. I'm 22, 23 in may.. you're close to Cliff's age it sounds like.. he just turned 27 in March. So you're a Leo, eh? That makes perfect sense. My best friend in H.S. was a Leo, and I've always gotten along well with them. YES! This is EXACTLY how my mom was w/ her Beatles albums!

Everyone's treasures are so neat! Yup! Such a beautiful book, doesn't even seem like a children's book. Anna, I had this book when I was little and it was a Russian language version. I didn't remember the story but when I saw the drawings, I instantly remembered this book. What a great find! We, unfortunately, were not able to bring any books with us when we moved to the US

This book is such a classic, don't you agree? How sweet, Huntress! I wish you still had it. I love the Russian language. Did you read it a lot? Aw, I'm sorry you couldn't take it. DD: Did you like the book?
