I found the French book "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. ;P It was translated into English. I found this last year in the grade school's library hidden. Hadn't been checked out for about 20 years. ;D I don't know if you guys have heard of it, it's a classic. I went up to the lady and secretly whispered, "May I buy this book?" That's not really allowed, so she looked around, and said to just check it out and never return it. ;D So I gave her about 5 bucks for it and never returned it. I have it today. ;D The pictures in the book are drawn with ink pen and painted in watercolor. The author really was talented. Do you guys have any really old books or treasures? Please do show pics! Here's my prized book, The Little Prince

I LOVE that book. Anna, you should post the little action figures you found in Canada. Also, my little guys too! ;D

What a neat story, Anna! Here are two of my treasures: The silver "quill" pin is from my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. It really means a lot to me, and holds a lot of memories of all the great times I had with my sorority sisters. The triangle pin is my grandmother's sorority pin. It is real gold and pearls, and over 60 years old. I actually began pledging at the same sorority my freshman year at Western Illinois University, before my major caused me to transfer to University of Iowa, who didn't have a Sigma Kappa on campus. My grandmother gave this pin to me after my grandpa passed away last February, so it really is a precious, sentimental treasure. Technically I shouldn't have it, but am keeping it as a heirloom. Hoping that one day Bella will have the opportunity to wear one of the pins, since she'll be a Legacy at either house. ( I put the quarter in the picture, so you can see just how tiny they are! )

That is REALLY neat, Anna! I can't believe you found that! I absoultely adore books, especially old books! I'd love to see a picture of some of the inside pages, you said they're watercolored - must be neat! Allison, those are neat treasures.. I can't really comment a lot, because like I know I've mentioned before, I'm sorta the anti-cheerleader, anti-sorority type... But as long as you don't hold that against me, I won't hold it against you, lol I know I have a whole bunch of sentimental treasures... none that I have pictures of or can really think of at the moment. I'm a bit of a pack-rat, but ESPECIALLY with sentimental things, most of all things that have been passed down through my family. Sadly, I'm about to inherit a bunch of the family heirlooms I've loved my whole life, as my Mema (mom's mom) is going to pass away sometime soon .. She's doing really well.. too much so, it's almost hard to believe she's deteriorating. I know my parents are holding a whole bunch of things for me at their house (FL) that she wanted me to have (she recently cleaned out and sold her house, moving in instead to an assisted living facility). At any rate, I've now blabbered on to where I'm way off topic! Yes, family heirlooms are great treasures! I'll have to take pictures of some of my treasures when I get a chance.

Yes, family heirlooms are great treasures! I'll have to take pictures of some of my treasures when I get a chance. I won't hold it against you at all! My brother is sort of that way, now, he always teases me that he can't believe he's related to an ex cheerleader/sorority girl (and I tease back that it is horrifying to be related to an emo drummer!) but we are uber close, so it's just in fun! I have definitely changed a lot since having Bella, it's definitely brought my maintenance level back down to Earth, haha! I'm sorry to hear about your mother's mom, as well. My Grandfather passed away last February, and my grandmother also lives in an assisted living type place, now. That is how I came to have her sorority pin, as she was cleaning out her things to move. I gained a box-load of things.... vintage cookbooks and cookie-cutters, tons of old "costume" jewelry, lots of old books and sewing patterns. I was also given 100's of old vinyl records, which I passed on to a close friend. My grandfather had worked for the FBI for years, so he had tons of cool binders filled with their newsletters dating back to the 1940s... my cousin kept those, but we all had fun reading through them! I can't wait to see your pictures. I love seeing photos of special momentos.... I have so many, it was hard to pick just one (well, two) to share!

Haha, well I find it quite strange that we chat so much on here; I dare say we could possibly even be friends in person, although I won't admit that to anyone I know currently, LOL. Yeah, it sounds like you went through the EXACT same thing with your grandmother.... my box full of things is at my parent's house, though, until I move back cross-country. I don't even know ALL of what there is, although I know she & I are VERY similar, so a lot of things were only REALLY valuable to her and me (yay, I get all her old oriental figure collection- I just WISH I had pictures to show you!)... I may have to wait until June-ish to post my "treasures" pictures! One of my absolute favorites growing up was this figurine of a Japanese (I think) fisherman with a fish hanging from a line... I believe I've inherited him, although I won't know for sure until the summer.. There were several, I think, 2-3, I use to play with them with my Mema when I was little, along with these little glass birds she had sitting around. I of course, don't have any pictures, but I found one on ebay thats similar: and the bird: I KNOW mine are different, but those are the closest I could get.

That's so funny! We definitely think alike. My sorority/cheerleading days are long past though (as are my days of looking cute in the attire!), having Bella has definitely mellowed me out (and fattened me up!). Those are VERY cool! I love the little fisherman! My mom also collects those glass birds -- she has quite a few. The guest room at my parents' house is decorated with all bird things... vintage lace birds, glass/stone/statue birds, etc. She loves the LPS birds, too, haha! Can't wait to see pictures of what you've inherited!

Hehe, I know, it seems we're always on the same page! lol I'm sure you're still drop-dead-gorgeous and I'm sure I'd be very jealous still, lol. That's cool that your mom collects birds ... I'm not sure, I think "mine" is a little different, but this pic was the closest I could find. I will cherish him mostly because he was my little playtoy at her house growing up; so many of her things have had sooo many memories attached! I actually don't like birds much, lol... but I guess a little kid in a grandparent's nice house, I found what I could to play with... and I know she was SO sweet playing with me. *sigh* Actually, I scanned a bunch of photos my mom salvaged when Katrina flooded their house- I can show you This one suffered a bunch of water damage, but it's my Mema playing with me in tupperware, apparently, when I was an infant, hehe! Here, Mema and Papa (mom's dad, passed away Feb. 07) play with me with a new sandbox they gave me.. I mustve been about 2-3y/o: In this pic, Mema is helping me play with Buttons, my favorite childhood doll, which she & Papa had just given me (Buttons was my size when I got her! She lived until the house was flooded during a hurricane when I was a teenager, lol). Gotta LOVE the 80's clothes, huh? And here, Mema playing with me inside a little tent I had (looking back, that must have been real devotion for her to crawl in there with me, LOL, it was small!).. I was probably 5-6y/o here: Ok, I'm done with my little trip down memory lane, lol... sorry if that bored ya'll to death.. I guess I figured I can't show you real pics of my treasures, but I can share (for now) pictures the memories where those treasure became so valuable to me. This summer, I can't wait to see for myself what all has been entrusted to me, and take pics to show you guys.

Aaw, I loved your photos!!! You were a darling little girl! I love your hair. I'm so sorry you guys were affected by Katrina, too. I couldn't imagine losing my photos, actually, that is one of my phobias! Your MeMa is pretty much amazing, playing with you like that! I think it's a requirement for Grandmas. I remember soooo many weekends where I wanted to go stay at my grandparents house. She taught me to sew, bake, and did all kinds of crafts with me (and my brother and cousins!) It was always such a treat. Bella is now like that with my parents (her Nana & Bubba -- Nancy and Bob!) This was me before Bella --- with a few of my sorority sisters, for Halloween '04 -- I was the Angel, though my wings are hidden! I had on those huge fake white eyelashes, too, which is why my eyes look kind of funny! We had so many good times!! ... I wish I had my own scanner (snagged that picture off one of my AXiD sisters MySpace!) I have three albums just filled to the brim with pictures from those days, and that was before I had a digital camera. So much fun! I was Social Chair for my sorority my junior and senior years, so I planned a lot of the theme parties and stuff. Halloween was awesome! I would show an "after photo", but I gotta work up the nerve for it, haha!

I actually began pledging at the same sorority my freshman year at Western Illinois University, before my major caused me to transfer WIU? Woot! I went there from 1989-1993 (WAY before you !!) I got my biology degree there (didn't do much with it, but that's a whole other story.) I must admit that I was a GDI (G@# Damn Independent) and sort of the anti-sorority girl. I didn't care for the whole Greek scene. Maybe I was just jealous because I knew they wouldn't let me in... I'm glad you have so many great memories from your sorority days. What dorm did you live in during your one year at Western? I was in Baylis.

What dorm did you live in during your one year at Western? I was in Baylis. Haha, I'm sure you could have gotten in! I loved going through rush (both times, WIU and Iowa, haha!) ...but I knew from the get-go I wanted to be in a sorority. It really gave me access to a lot of things I never would have been involved in, otherwise! I was in Bayliss, too! I had an awesome single room! It was really fun! I spent a lot of my time at the Delta Upsilon fraternity house, because one of my good friends from high school lived there (he graduated 2 years before me) and also at Corbin/Olsen, because a lot of the friends I made lived there! I loved that it was such a small campus, I knew a lot of people and really got involved with stuff -- Homecoming was a BLAST! I actually took this picture yesterday: ...of Bella wearing my Bay/Henn Homecoming shirt from 2000. She put it on backwards, and said it was a "zombie" dress!

hehe, thank you... I was a real cutie when I was little. I don't know what happened! My pictures are sooo ugly from about 9ish y/o on through my teens... I've learned to be ok w/ the way I look now, but I'm VERY picky about my pics and won't let them be posted anywhere if I don't approve *sigh* That's all right... My parents were fine, and that's the important thing. It was very stressful and traumatic for my mom.. but she said she really reached some peace all those weeks cleaning everything; she said she cleaned ALL my barbies (I had a ton) and all the little shoes and accessories... I guess it made her feel like she wasn't so bad letting them get ruined or something, although in part she says it's b/c she lots all her barbies when she was little (they had to leave them behind when they moved I think), so that plays into it, lol. But yes, losing pictures is a HUGE phobia of mine too. I LOVE pictures and do all sorts of scrapbooking and everything... they're probably one of my most treasured possessions... all my memories on paper! Luckily my mom was able to take most of them up to higher ground w/ her, and cleaned those that didn't make it... the one I posted was one that took a bit of damage though. Hehe, yes grandparents are SO special. I had a really good relationship with my Papa too. He's been gone for about a year now, though, and I'm just not ready to talk too much about those memories on here just yet. They've always been great though. My Mema and I are a lot alike and share a bunch of similar interests and quirks, even things other family (even my mom) can't understand. For example, our love of stationary and paper goods (LOL), asian/oriental culture, both very talkative, etc etc. My mom said we've always shared something special; we just sorta get each other really well, lol. You're beautiful, of course Looks like it was a fun time. I love Halloween and dressing up and all. I had some great times at my college too, although we didn't have any sororities/fraternities.... was a small honors college.. most were 2nd generation hippies. most people probably would find it weird.. I loved it, even though I'm not extreme hippie-greenpeace-type, I do fit in better with that crowd than most .. And I do think I would've fit in well in the 60s-70s Oh, shh, I'm SURE you're still beautiful! lol. I know what you mean though; body changing ALWAYS causes self-consciousness. I've had a LOT of body issues growing up; I'm still not 100% ok with my body, but I'm accepting it much better than I ever did in my life. I don't really have the nerve to post a current pic either, although I guess I already have a few on my myspace *sigh* .. usually all outdated though. www.myspace.com/mysticrose29

I loved that it was such a small campus, I knew a lot of people and really got involved with stuff -- Homecoming was a BLAST! You obviously were MUCH MORE social than I was. I was soooo shy that I never went anywhere except to class and to work at the library. I wouldn't even go to the "floor meetings" in the dorm. My RA didn't like me, because I wouldn't participate, but I was just too shy. I went to the first meeting. Then to the first meeting that we had with our brother floor in Henninger. That was torture for shy me. And that was it. I never went to another. I started out on 12 floor Bayliss, then my sophomore year I moved down to the 2nd floor. Then my junior year I moved off campus and stayed there through graduation. I was so close to campus though, that I could still walk. That was cool. The only friends I had were my roommate, my brother, and one other girl that I met through my roommate. I was friendly with the kids I worked with, but I never hung out with them outside work. I was a dud. Mainly because of my shyness. I just couldn't do anything else. For the first year I wouldn't even eat in the cafeteria. I would take my food up to my room. I'm glad you had fun in college. For me, it was just a way to get a degree...that I didn't even really use. But my experience at the library there is what got my foot in the door at the library I work at now. So it wasn't a totally wasted 4 years. ;D Bella the Zombie is just too cute!!!

I saw your pictures on your Myspace, you are so pretty! That's really neat about you and your grandma having so much in common, and everything. She sounds like an awesome lady! I am glad your parents are ok, too. And that they were able to recover what they did! We went through the Mississippi flood of 1993... our neighborhood was in the clear, until the last few hours... all the sewers backed up, because they were overflowed with water, so our basement's toilet just let in a TON of water... I was about 9 and my parents had us go to my grandparents' house so we wouldn't be around the water. A lot of their wedding photos had been in a box in the basement (the ones that didn't make it to the album) so they lost a lot of those, and my mom lost some of her vintage paperdoll collection as well. I love to scrapbook, too! And Halloween is so fun. When I was in college, we'd go out almost every night the week of Halloween, coming up with different costumes and stuff. In the "Greek" system, there was always a party to go to! Your college sounds really cool! Thanks so much for the compliments, too! I'm glad you had fun in college. For me, it was just a way to get a degree...that I didn't even really use. But my experience at the library there is what got my foot in the door at the library I work at now. So it wasn't a totally wasted 4 years. ;D Bella the Zombie is just too cute!!! I was really social in high school / college! I was definitely one of the people that got the "Socializes too much" on my report cards in grammar school, haha! After having gone through the things with Bella's dad, and then post-Bella body image, I've really lost most of my self-confidence with meeting new people. I'm sorry you didn't like college! My brother was like that, too.... very shy and only really friends with one or two people, always coming home on the weekends to hang out with his high school friends. I don't think it really matters too much, as long as you got something out of it (and working at the library, how awesome!) I lived on Bay-12, too! I was actually one of the floor representatives/spokeswomen and helped my RA with meetings and going to the building meetings, too. I still talk to my RA sometimes, she was so great! A lot of my old floor-mates (Dirty Dozen was our floor shtick, just because we couldn't think of anything else, haha!) we talk on Myspace and last summer one of them got married, and a few of us were at the wedding! And thank you! I love taking pictures of her, she's just so entertaining! you all have SUCH wonderful pictures! I'm sorry I haven't posted. I've been kinda busy. I will post pics of my book's pages soon. (; I can't wait to see the pictures, Anna!
