Wow Jen, I am sorry to hear about the tri test. I guess that is enough to scare anyone. If you have good insurance you should ask your doctor if he/she can recommend you to a nutritionist. My dad was able to get one free under his insurance when he was diagnosed with diabletes. I am sure they will get that down quick between some neds and proper diet. The guy that works for my dad just had the exact same thing happen...he is 34 and his cholestorol was over 700. He drinks only pop and beer (NEVER any water) and eats ONLY fast food (NO veggies OR fruit). It's proof what that can do to you!
It happens quick. I had a test done recently and that was another reason I wanted to do this. Mine was just over the good range and I want to watch my son grow up. Well, I am glad you are ready to do the right thing though! I hope it all works out at the doctor and keep up posted! I will keep you in my thoughts!

I'm very sorry about that, Jen. I hovered right around the low 200s for a few years, and my dr. told me if I went higher that she would have to put me on meds. But in the past year that I've been taking karate, my cholesterol dropped quite a bit. I think it was about 160 in July. I was thrilled with that. And my bad cholestoral (don't know what it's called) were in a great range. I was so relieved. It had to be the karate, because I definitely didn't do anything different with my diet.
Sometimes heredity plays a big part in your cholesterol, and you just need to be on meds no matter what. My mom eats very well and still has to be on cholesterol meds. She just has bad genes for it.
Best of luck with getting your numbers down. You can do it, and we're all here cheering you on!!
Go Jen!!!
Great job, Dana!
Today wasn't too great again. And I'm afraid I didn't drink much water either.
But I definitely know those sit-ups did me good last night. My abs are screaming at me today!! I feel dumb, because I had to partner up with Sensei Hottie to do my sit-ups (one person lays their legs over yours to hold you still.) So I started off like gangbusters, trying to impress Sensei. Well, I started off so hard, 30 sit-ups in, I was dead!! I was straining so hard I was afraid I was gonna fart!! I finally made it to 50, but man did it hurt!! How embarrassing!!!
Today I didn't leave enough time for breakfast again. But after my eye appt. we went out to eat. I had a chicken sandwich...but not grilled...fried. But I didn't have mayo...just a little ketchup and pickles and lettuce. And I had about 20 tater tots. Ummm...love the tots. Me and Napolean Dynamite.
And I'm afraid I had lots of Pepsi...probably 40 oz. Stupid free refills.
Then at work I had about 10 more ounces of Coke. Then for supper we had a Canadian Bacon pizza...I had 3 pieces...but they were really small. But I also had quite a few pieces of Summer Sausage on Ritz Crackers. Probably 10. And another 12 oz. of Pepsi. Ugh.
There's always tomorrow.

Thanks girls. Yes I'm calling the doc tomorrow. And you don't know how much your words of encouragement mean to me! That and getting my customs from Dana in the mail today made me smile again :-)

That's right Carol...there is always tomorrow! Just don't get discouraged! You can probably eat as much as you did before...just better choices and get rid of all that pop! Luckily I do not have a craving for pop too often...sometimes I crave a rootbeer but I just grab a water and add a packet of the o calorie tea stuff. It is GOOD! I did have 4 of the small sugar cookie tonight after my countings for the day, I made them for Xander and wasn't going to pass when i had enough room for the carbs and calories today! The only bad thing is that is was after 8 pm, which is a no no. Too bad....they were good and I still don't feel like they ruined my day!

Thanks girls. Yes I'm calling the doc tomorrow. And you don't know how much your words of encouragement mean to me! That and getting my customs from Dana in the mail today made me smile again :-) Thank you Jen! I am soo glad you like them! And I just found my tests results from June of this year. Cholesterol 195 (normal range 0-200) Triglycerides 119 (normal range 0-150) HDL (good cholesterol) 46 (normal range 40-100) LDL (bad cholestreol) 125 (normal range 0-100) So, mine is not bad but certainly not good. And I know I also feel it everywhere! The extra weight makes my feet hurt and my knees creak and crack, and I sweat like a teenage boy....ick! Anyways, I am glad all of us are getting on track and I would recommend EVERYONE getting a screening and a physical....and get your loved ones to do the same! Any of these bad things such as the cholesterol or diabetes can be prevented, reversed or your life can be saved if caught early enough!

So, how is everyone doing?? I bought a ton of lean cuisine meals, and as a friend of mine suggested bought an extra bag of precooked chicken strips to add (since they don't give you enough meat or protein). I also found something I really liked tonight.....BUTTERBALL TURKEY BURGER PATTIES. They did NOT taste like a "diet" burger.....on toasted whole wheat bread...yumm! I know you are supposed to eat light small even meals every 3 hours, but three meals a day really works for me with a couple small snacks between and I have noticed I am less hungry at every meal and get filled up quicker.
I am soo happy about finally doing this....THANK YOU to everyone who has had any input on this thread...you are all helping me become healthier and happier!

Sounds like you are doing great, Dana!!! So how are the Lean Cuisine meals? Do they taste ok? I know I tried Healthy Choice a couple times, and I thought they tasted like poop. But that was way back when they first came out. Maybe they've improved by now. Great idea with the extra chicken.
I resisted some temptation today. We had a staff meeting, and there are refreshments at those things. And there were lots at this. I didn't go (it's not required...it's more of a party.) I had too much work to do anyway. People kept harping at me to go get food, but I kept saying I was too busy. So I resisted for most of the day. At lunch the food was sitting out, so I did have a cinnamon roll and a tiny piece of carrot cake. And some nasty mango drink. Plus I had my Slim-Fast drink. And that was it. I didn't drink enough water. Just from the water fountain about every hour.
Then tonight I got us Subway, because I had to work late. I got a 6-inch turkey on wheat...But I also got cheese, a little mayo, pickles, lettuce and black olives. The mayo and cheese were the worst, and there wasn't a lot of that.
Oh, and I got a Dr. Pepper and a small bag of barbecue chips. Bad.
And now I'm having my Strawberry Juice Bar.
I was very active today. I shifted heavy journals in the library for about an hour and a half. That's hot, sweaty, and strenuous work. Some of those journals are really heavy. Lots of up and down, lots of lifting, moving. I definitely worked up a sweat.

I've been slacking. Dr Pepper is my nemesis. Eating out is common with us, and I need to change that!

I've been slacking. Dr Pepper is my nemesis. Eating out is common with us, and I need to change that! We eat out too much too, little sister. Well, we don't necessarily GO out, that's not Richard's thing. But I bring home food a lot. I probably only fix our supper 4 times a week...max. Bad Carol. And Dr. Pepper...yummy!! I've gotten into Dr. Pepper more this past year. Before then I hardly ever drank it. Haley drinks it a lot, and I started drinking it when I was with her.

Eating out for the past three months was the reason I started this. I gained almost 10 pounds! My mom moved my sister out to LA and has been there sine July. So, my dad lives 2 miles away and we both work alot so we have been eating out almost everyday, sometimes lunch and dinner. Expensive and fattening. They give you way too much food and it is hard to resist.
I did good again yesterday.
I had Special K cereal, a lean cuisine lasagna, 100 cal pretzel packet, turkey burger (YUM) and for dessert I had my protein shake since I didn't have it in the am.
And the weight watchers and lean cuisine meals are hit or miss...some are real good and some are ick.
Yesterday:
Calories 1515 Fat 43g Protein 105g Carbs 175g Fiber 9.5g

Eating out kills me. If I pay for that yummy food, I tend to eat too much. And sodas are my weakness. I did okay yesterday except for lunch. We went out :-( and I had a salad with dressing and 4 pieces of thin slice pizza. But breakfast & supper went well. I love to cook and fixed homemade granola for break. and balsamic vinegar chicken which is healty. And NO sodas yesterday!!
Today though I woke up SICK! Headache and throwing up. I finally was able to eat something but ate starches because that was the only thing that seemed tolerable. I had some leftover orzo pasta and some cheezits. I drank about 4 oz. of Sprite because I felt so weak. I hope this isn't the result of drastically changing my diet and is in fact a virus.

Hope you feel better soon, Jen.
Let's see...today. My parents were here visiting, so we ate out twice. First I had a bowl of Rice Crispies with skim milk for breakfast. Good start.
Then for lunch we ate at Wendy's. I wasn't very good. I had Coke with a refill. And a chicken club sandwich with fries. And a few bites of my mom's chocolate frosty.
Then for supper we went to our favorite truck stop restaurant, and I had their yummy breakfast food. I had 2 pancakes with a little butter and syrup. Then 3 sausage links and 2 eggs, and a couple Pepsis. Oh, and a few bites of my mom's taco salad (my mom is better at not stuffing herself full than I am.)
So that's it, but it was a fattening day. Oh well. I loves me food.

I just wanted to say that I think its wonderful that you all are making these positive life style changes! I also wanted to recommend a healthy alternative to soda. It is called Sparkling Water, it's not seltzer, its much better! It is flavored and is also carbonated, like soda, but there are no calories! It is just carbonated water with natural flavoring. Many different brands offer there own variations, but I buy mine from Target (I'm not sure of the name, but they are located alongside the regular water.) Aquafina also makes Sparkling water. I also like to drink Dasani Plus, which is a vitamin enriched flavored water. It comes in three different flavors and is also available at target. It is very tasty!

Thanks starchaser.
So, I took the day off today! I did so well this week and didn't even want to count what was going to be today's totals! My father, my good friend, Xander and I went to a pumpkin and apple farm for brunch and fun today! Brunch was really good. We had apple and walnut french toast, apple panckaes, apple fritter puffs and I had a chocolate milk! YUM! I did not overdo it though. I ate bad stuff but all in small portions. I usually would have ate ALOT more. Than I had a carmel and nut apple! But dinner will be light, just cause it's a day off doesn't mean undo the whole week! Lol.

I've lost 9 pounds!!!! I was looking in the mirror today, and thought I looked a little smaller. So I pulled out the scale, and was so surprised to see some loss! I'm so excited! I feel so much healthier, too. Thanks to everyone for the support!
