Hoping maybe we could get our own online diet going!? Anyone needing to lose a few pounds, or more, could join in.
For those that don't know me, I am a single mom and have been overweight for about 5 years now. I am 31 years old and my dad just got diagnosed with diabetes, which scares me! I am currently 5'8" and 190 pounds. Whoa.
I was just thinking an online chat group...what is wroking for whom and keeping track of weight lose here. My ultimate goal is to be 135. For now I am looking for some extra motivation to get started! I will be posting my current picture, and maybe a photo of what I looked like pre-fat (lol).
Well, hoping to get a great response with this...I know it is past time for me to get started. I need to get healthy to live a long happy life with my darling son and want to be comfortable in my own skin again!!

This is a great idea, Dana. I'm in. I'm 29, 5'10" and 200 lbs. My ideal weight is 160-170. But, please, I'm bad at following through with this kind of thing. So, encouragement and accountability is vital!
PS Dana, I'm so sorry about your dad.

I am SO in!! I definitely need encouragement too. My husband's great at it..."Dang...you're eating a lot tonight!" Yeah...put that in a memo and title it sh#$ I already know! ;D Anyway, I'm 36, 5'9", and I weigh 205 lbs!!!! I was between 135 and 140 the whole time until I was about 28. Then things ballooned from there (like my thighs, belly, and butt!) I was 150 when we got married in 2002, and that's what I want to be again. But I'd be satisfied with 170. This will be great. Thanks for starting it, Dana!! p.s. I'm also sorry about your dad, Dana. My dad also was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when he was in his 50s, mostly because of weight gain. He got pretty heavy. But he's been doing well and has lost quite a bit of weight the past few years. He still takes medicine for his diabetes, and checks his sugar a lot, but he still doesn't have to take insulin shots. My mom is always freaked that I'll get diabetes, because I have a strong family history of it on both sides. So I really need to be careful. My sugar level is still ok for now. And, now my dad is actually about the same weight as me!! I'm so happy for him, but that makes me feel even worse about how I've ended up here.

Oh I so need this...I put things off alot especially on this issue.
I am 35 and 5'3 and 190 pounds. I had open heart surgery when I was 5(so losing weight would help my heart as well) and have high blood pressure and recently was told I am on the line for diabetes(which runs in my family). My goal is to lose weight so I can hopefully come off my medicine.
You know if you could get your dad involved with you on this it would be great for him...My dad was over weight and on meds for blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol and he lost weight by eating right and he is off all of those meds now so there is hope! I would like to loss weight for a trip I am going on in 2 months.
I am in!!!!!! I will need help as well staying on track though.

I'm in too girls. I'm 36 5'4 and 155 lbs. We eat healthy most of the time at home. But I eat lunch out most days so I think that keeps me from losing as I have a tendency to eat bad because I'm starving by lunch time. I could stand to lose 10 to 15 lbs. and with a little bit of encouragement from you all, I think it would be VERY possible. I too have high blood pressure and would like to get off the meds.
My biggest setback is trying to figure out "What's for Dinner"..... I tend to resort to whatever's easiest so I think this would be a good opportunity to swap some healthy recipes and get some new dinner ideas as well.
I'm sorry to hear about your dad Dana. His diagnosis could pass on a good thing to a lot of people... Including all of us who will support you and each other!!

I am happy to see soo many already that would like to join in!! My dad lost about 20 pounds when he got diagnosed and was eating very healthy. He has remained at that same weight, which is perfect for him, but is eating some bad stuff! Fried foods and lots of sweets! We eat together alot so I think if I start doing better he will follow. In the past with me, the exercise is what made the weight come off and the eating right played a big part too. I am a night snacker and have a HORRIBLE sweet tooth!
We will have to keep on each other and now that we've officially told everyone here we want to do it that puts us all one step closer!!
Anyone else?? Please join at anytime!!

Today, I'm going to try not to drink anything but water. I usually have soda all day, and then some beer at night. I'm sure the calories add up to some stupid high number, so that's the goal for me today. For exercise, I may just put on some music and boodie dance. That always works up a sweat.
What are you girls going to try today?

E, that is the easiest way to cut back on Calories is cut the sodas. If you can stand Diet soda, coke zero is pretty decent. My husband is out buying some new palm trees so today I plan on getting outside and helping him dig holes to put them in.... woo hoo. (insert sarcasm here) But this is more than I feel like doing today. I'm feeling especially lazy today. You are motivating me today E and maybe we'll do some boodie shakin later. We have a game for PS2 called Dance Dance Revolution. It's a lot of fun and doesn't seem at all like exercise. My 4 yr old son LOVES it so we will play together and Mommy will get to burn some calories.... ;D

I've never liked Diet Sodas. I don't want to start. But I have heard before, that Coke Zero is good.
I was looking in the mirror last night, practicing on my "before picture" pose, and I thought, how funny it would be to post a pic of me at age 18 as the "after picture". Hahhahahhahahha!

Here's a calorie counter that I've used in the past. www.myfoodbuddy.com/calorie_counters.htmFound this quote on that site: There are 16 level teaspoons of sugar in every regular 20oz. soda. Imagine drinking 1/4 cup of sugar, a couple times a day. What would your dentist say! Fantastic Fact: If you drink a gallon of ice water instead, your body will use up 120 calories, just to bring it up to body temperature. Fantastic Fact: Dehydration can slow your metabolism preventing weight loss. Coffee, tea, and alcohol all tend to dehydrate you.

As I am sitting here drinking my MUG rootbeer I am thinking I should have had a water. Darn...should have gotten on here earlier!
I don't drink any alcohol though....naughty naughty E. Those beers add up quick, and usually make you hungry too. That's my worst time is night....I am REALLY bad at eating at night! I like those nightly sweets!
I will do better tonight. Have a good healthy dinner...get some fruits and veggies in!

Yesterday was a good day for me. I didn't exercise, but I did eat and drink right. Baby steps, right?
I'm going for the all water goal again today.
How is everyone else doing?

Congrats, e!! Soda is my downfall. I usually drink about 2 a day. About a total of 24 ounces. I just can't stop it quite yet. I'm going to try to eat less. I'm impressed that you can stop it.
I did a lot of walking yesterday, because we went to a fall festival and watched a parade and had to walk a lot. But no formal exercise. I'll do that tomorrow at kara-tay.
If I get the nerve, I think I'm going to post what I eat each day in this thread. It doesn't do me any good to write it down in a notebook, because it's only me that sees it. BUt if you all see it, maybe I'll eat less.
My problem is that I often don't take time to eat breakfast. And since I've been so busy at work, I've even skipped lunch quite a few times lately. It might be 2:00 or 3:00 before I eat anything for the day. I know that's very bad.
So far today, I've eaten a bowl of Special K Red Berries cereal with skim milk.

Yesterday was a good day for me. I didn't exercise, but I did eat and drink right. Baby steps, right? I'm going for the all water goal again today. How is everyone else doing? All water, huh? I bought a water bottle that is supposed to hold the daily recommended amount of water. I have no problem drinking it cuz I drink a lot of water anyway. I drink about 1 diet dr. pepper a day and about 3-4 cups of coffee. My downfall is fried foods. I love 'em! I need to eat more fruits and veggies, but they're not my favorite. We're having hamburgers on the grill tonight. I guess I'll have to have a salad on the side instead of fries. Poop. I load my burgers up with lettuce, tomato and pickles, but the provalone cheese and mayonaise is what ruins it. I'm 5'8" in pushin' about 200 pounds. I don't exercise, but lead a busy lifestyle. I do spend a lot of time on the computer and that's what I need to change too. But I love all my online friends and hate it when I don't keep in touch! Yesterday was a busy day and all I ate was 2 pretzel rods before we went to a wedding. We were early, so we stopped at McDonald's and I got $1 chicken sandwich, $1 fries and a Coke. At the wedding, I had a piece of fried chicken (thigh), some mac and cheese, green beans and a roll. I skipped the cake though, so I guess that's good. I didn't eat anything else the rest of the night. (Jeff tried to get me to go out for ice cream, but I passed.) Losing weight is soooo hard! I didn't lose my normal 20 this summer, so I'm sure I'll be buying new clothes soon if I don't get bizzaaaayyyyy! I'm in. Judy with the big fat boodie

So far, today, I've had 1 boiled egg, a piece of toast, with butter, and a glass of milk.
You're right, Carol. Writing it down on a notebook is easy. Posting it will hold me more accountable.
I used to have great metabolism. I'd eat like a horse, and not gain a pound. Now, I eat a pound, and look like a horse.
