Hi, I have been collecting Webkinz for my daughter since my brother bought her the orange and white kitty in 2005.
Just this past February, my daughter donated over 120+ (family of pandas, family of kitties, etc.) of her personal Webkinz and account to a young girl suffering from a terrible disease, nuerofibromytosis (progressive tumour growth on her spine). The girl is the face of Variety this year in Canada and her name is Jeneece Edroff.
The newspaper and news reported the story as a selfless gift from a child. My daughter was 11 at the time, but she was 10 when she said she wanted to donate all her Webkinz to someone special, but didn't know who yet. So, when she decided on Jeneece, we carefully got them all together and took them to the donation drop off spot.
She included all the new, discontinued and retired Webkinz (the newest releases with Tags from August to February) and then any store we went in, they would recognize her and give her a Webkinz which she turned around and gave it back to variety. People actually drove to the Studio to see the retired Webkinz' before they were delivered to Jeneece. Danisa kept one Cheeky Cat/Dog, but now would like to sell them so that she can spay her bunnies.
Danisa gave Jeneece a booklet of information about Webkinz and herself with all the little details she needed to know about each family she created, named and why. Danisa also requested that when Jeneece was tired of playing Webkinz on her account to donate her account to Children's Hospital for the other kids to play during their stay.
We have pretty much one of every Webkinz which we slowly list on Ebay. They are all new with Tags, but they are so cute and cuddly, it hard to part.
Today, we picked up a special Webkinz in honor of the passing of my daughter's Rottie of 8 years. There was a beautiful spotted leopard, limon gecko, toucan, rotteweiler, siamese cat...it's too hard to resist, but I'm trying to say no for July forward...already honoring pets, they'll be many more honorings of animals as they come out.
Ebay listed some pre-orders of the Blue Jay, Cocoa Dinosaur, Fawn, Manatee, Skunk, Silver Back Gorilla, Fantail Gold Fish, Caramel Lion (love this style), American Albino White Horse, & Crocodile.
I noticed around town, 2 businesses have gone under who were reliable Webkinz Sellers. I just wonder if Ganz Marketing of Webkinz, has hurt businesses? Other businesses here, all trying to sell them at half price except new releases and they still aren't selling.
There was so much fire under Webkinz the past 2 years and now its kind of disappeared. There are always kids coming up after the tweens move on to something cooler. What happened?
