Pets (Note: I've taken out the magnet variants, because now with all the hubbub about the pink or blue magnets, missing magnets, etc, I just think it doesn't really count. They're still noted in the checklist, just in the pet's actual profile. From now on, variants are those pets you can visually distinguish from their standard version.) Cats: Kitten Head, 4 paws spread (one paw raised, 4 paws spread)Dogs: Collie, Dark Brown (one paw raised, all 4 paws on ground)Shih Tzu (dark hair tuft, light hair tuft)Mammals: Guinea Pig, shorthair (orange, brown)

Hey Kevin, I've noticed that a couple of the pets we've bought as "rereleases" to catch up (specifically our 2nd orange and white bulldog, and the white long-haired cat from the fish 2 pack) have "rosier" cheeks than they used to. Are you considering these variants as well? I'm not sure if any of the other rereleases have this extra pink on them.... and sorry, I don't have a digital camera at this time to visually explain what I mean.

Hi JJReason . So far I haven't reclassified any kind of paint shading as a variant except the ferret (who I technically don't think is a variant, but I sort of caved to public opinion ). The pets with dusted or airbrushed paint colors often come with lots of variation (for example, the chick with pink around her eyes has been seen with almost no pink, a little pink, and lots of pink). I usually just dig through the shelves to find the one I want, and call it good . I don't really think it's a variant because it isn't something that changed in production, it just IS the production... does that make sense? I do think some people consider them variants, though, so if it makes you happy, I say go for it .

Awesome, thanks for the reply. I know all about production variety, with the Star Wars figures I collect (also a Hasbro product, btw) you can find disparities between nearly every figure with respect to paint application - I don't consider those variants, either.
Thanks for your input!

My daughter and I (ok let's be honest) I am trying to collect some of these variants. I have managed to find most of them except for the two grey mice with the different feet coloring. Has anyone seen these? Does anyone have these and have pictures to share? Thanks

I'm in to the variants as well. I think both of those mice are unsubstantiated. One comes from the Hasbro marketing picture, (pink feet, no eyelashes) and we all know how they are prone to changing things before production. The other (eyelashes, non-painted feet) supposedly came with the Whirl Around Playground, but I had one of the first runs (with the walmart bonuses) and a more recent one from 2006, and the mice from those were exactly the same. No one on this board has ever come forward to say that they have either version of these mice, so I don't think they really exist. If anyone has either of these, they should let us know....

We also collect all the variants. I agree with RQ (Ravenqueen) I don't think they actually exist.

I think it was MLPMom who said her Merry Mouse had faint pink paint on his feet, with no eyelashes.... other than that, I've never heard of anyone finding either of them, so I probably should just take the little guys off the list, ya think?
