OK, so I've gotten myself some sculpey and I'm practicing my very poor sculpting skills at the moment. The only "toy" thing cheap enough to ruin laying around is this little plastic bat whistle I got around halloween (like pack of 4 for a dollar, party favor style, LOL)... So Mr.Bat is getting a make-over (I really think he was happier as a whistle, but my fiancee is being very supportive and thinks he's cute. He was pretty ugly to begin w/ so I'm really just building on top of him and, well, practicing (adding little feet, claws, etc, LOL). Other than that, I was trying to prepare other materials today, though sadly the LPS figures I'd seen at Big Lots a couple weeks ago are no longer there (*cry* ). Also I went to get the primer and top coat, and looked at your pics again and (somehow for the first time) realized they're spray on... So I was wondering, does that cause you problems spraying on a base coat? I mean, do you typically just plop some silly putty onto the eyes, carry your little guinea pig (pun intended, but feel free to replace w/ any LPS you like) outside, and spray away at him? Just scared me thinking of it that way, but I haven't tried it, so may not be as bad.... The other thing I wanted to ask about involves 2 paint questions: 1) Do you typically paint the whole thing in one sitting, or (is it even possible to) paint it at different occasions (ie: front then back, top then bottom, etc)? If you do it all at once, how do you turn the figure or hold it so you can reach all sides? 2) If you use sparkley paint, do you buy already glitter-paint OR do you just buy extra-fine glitter and add it to your acryllic paint? That's all for now. Although it's not LPS related (but it's practice for future LPS projects, so it's ok, right? ), I'll post a pic of "batty" after I'm done transforming him (probly won't be hardened, since it would have to go in the over and may kill him entirely, but we'll see). Thanks again for all the wonderful input, Elizabeth!! And also for the other questions for others new at this too!

Either Apoxy or something similar. I am just looking for something I could either buy locally or even from an online store other than from fee-bay. I have had numerous unsatisfactory experiences there not related to collecting or customizing but just buying computer accessories that were broken, being outbid, and other unpleasantness from rude sellers.

Make the silly putty cover ONLY the eye, because doing touch-ups around the eyes is a pain. 1) Do you typically paint the whole thing in one sitting, or (is it even possible to) paint it at different occasions (ie: front then back, top then bottom, etc)? If you do it all at once, how do you turn the figure or hold it so you can reach all sides? It'll take several sittings. I start with the face, since pressing on the silly putty will smoosh it. I can usually paint the front of the body in this first sitting too. Let it dry, because nothing will piss you off more than marking your fingerprint in still wet paint. Touch-ups could last forever. FOREVER. A good variety of different sized paint brushes is VERY important. 2) If you use sparkley paint, do you buy already glitter-paint OR do you just buy extra-fine glitter and add it to your acryllic paint?I've never used it, so I'm no help here. I have had numerous unsatisfactory experiences there not related to collecting or customizing but just buying computer accessories that were broken, being outbid, and other unpleasantness from rude sellers. I've never found any Apoxie Sculpt in town. Never. We buy from this lady: cgi.ebay.com/AVES-APOXIE-SCULPT-FOR-DOLL-RESTORATION-1-lb_W0QQitemZ140215235869QQihZ004QQcategoryZ2415QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemWe've never been disappointed. And it's Buy It Now, so you don't have to worry about being outbid.

Wonderful! Thank you once again! ;D I'm sure, being somewhat of a perfectionist, I could take forever on touch-ups, LOL! At some point I'll have to be satisfied. I'm guessing that with the paint you use and several touch-ups, you can't really tell where you did the different parts..? I can just see myself painting it and all of a sudden the head is drastically different from the legs, etc. LOL... I know that's a pretty silly concern, but you never know, all paint is different. Thanks again, though! And I'll be sure to share some of my ideas soon!

And the parts that don't, that's what touch-ups are best for.

OK. *deep breath* This is the weekend. I'm starting with the little Bratz Petz I got from the dollar tree, because I just can't bring myself to (potentially) destroy a LPS just yet. I had a GREAT idea that I really wanted to do inspired by Allison and Bella... I was going to use the Bratz rabbit..... but to my disgust, he doesnt have any ears (could be useful for some other creature, but right now I'm too angry with him to be creative, lol). So, I looked more closely at the others and decided on the piggy... he has cute little wings, and is therefore a flying piggy rather than a normal piggy (in the future, I can definitely see myself cutting these off and maybe putting on a horse or using for a dragon or something)... but for now, as my first, I'm only going to attempt a repaint (although the temptation to give the piggy a curly tail instead of his dumb little stump is driving me nuts). As much as I don't like the eyes, I didn't want to try to repaint them, so I've done the silly-putty-technique and used primer. He is now all white (except for black pupils, of course). Because he wasn't what I was intending for my first, I've not put a lot of thought into how to paint him... I've know what I'm doing with the wings. I haven't decided so much on the body yet, though. I'll probably decide (or not and just jump in quickly to save myself insanity) tonight and paint him tonight and tomorrow. Here are the pics so far... BEFORE:AFTER PRIMING:(sorry for quality of pics, was dark and flash just blurred everything) putty still on: putty off:

Heh, I don't know.. I'm in the painting process.. and I am soooo nit-picky right now. I keep fussing with it... especially the eyes - I don't like them the way they were to begin with, and now that I'm painting it doesnt help. I want to fix them, but I know I best leave them alone or the whole thing will blow up! Also, I got mad at the tail and made a curly one out of sculpy, baked it, and attached w/ superglue... I'm happier with it now. I know I've been talking about this forever, so it IS good that I'm actually doing it, lol... but yeah will post pics when I get done with my little perfectionist streak... I did make a huge mistake tho - I wanted a certain color, and had to mix to make it.. which is awesome, I like how it looks, BUT.... now I'm worried if I mess something up and need to go over w/ that color - I don't have any left, and I don't think I can make the same exact thing again! Lol.. eek! Will do my best, though!

OK, I think he's almost done... The biggestt problem I have is that the wings are ridiculously close the the head.. so every time I paint the wings, the head bobbles and gets some of the color... and every time I go back over the head (where the wings dabbed it), it gets back onto the wings. Grrrr! It's very frustrating. Since the head bobbles, it's almost impossible to get one or the other on one side without it touching the other side! I *think* i got it, so I'm refusing to touch it for 1 hr. at least... hopefully that'll do it... but chances are it'll touch somehow! Grrr! Assuming I can get those 2 colors to stay put, All I have left are the ears and nostrils and a little touch up on the eyes (which I am trying to leave alone, but may not happen, lol. Haven't started painting the base yet - maybe I'll do that since I can't touch the piggy for an hr. Also should be getting ready for work though in this time, lol. Since he's taking longer than I wanted, I figured I'd at least post for you my "inspiration" pics - that way you can see what I was sorta aiming for. He should be done tomorrow though (I really hope!) *Note, these are pictures of others' artwork.. I am only posting to show where my inspiration came from, and in no way intend to infringe on their artist's rights.

"E" you talk about airbrushing. Are you talking about a full-blown airbrush w/ compressor. Is there an easier or cheaper way to get this effect?
