okay, I'm pretty sure I've heard of this done before but I have deliberately not sought it out because I want to make sure I'm using my own ideas. That being said, I thought I'd do a series of pets customized like Wizard of Oz. So far I have started Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man and the Lion. I will definately do a scarecrow, and am debating Glenda, a munchkin, the wizard. The catch, I guess, is that I'm doing it in all dogs, other than the Lion's bottom half, which is a persian. Here they are, after being started: You can see the persion bottom on the chow head. And toto and Dorothy before getting any details. Here's the lion with just his first coat, no detail. Here's the tin man- he is painted, eyes touched up, but without his rivets painted on or his accessories apoxie sculpted. That will be the next step and I am super nervous. Here's Toto and his before: Here's Dorothy and her before- I hate that I like her better unpainted! But I love the details I've given, the nose and mouth and a hint of pink cheeks. The accesories I'll do on her are blue bows, red shoes, and somehow a dress. I bought ribbon I thought would be perfect and it looks wretched on the mold. We'll see, I guess. The scarecrow will be a pitbull, I thought the wrinkles would look good for his clothes. I'm stuck on how to do the hay effect, maybe ribbon fringe glued on. Another bridge to cross when I get to it! Keep in mind I've only done one custom before and that none of these are done. That being said, I'd love some feedback! Celia

here's what I got done tonight- I had my first round with apoxie sculpt tonight, and man I am horrible. Not sure if I'll stick with this hat and i'm curing an ax right now, but the dog is done. And I did Dorothy's shoes! Also done with apoxie sculpt, so kind of rough but I think they're cute. The second picture shows that they're mary janes. I need a paint run since some of my paint was dried out when I opened it! but then i can work on the scarecrow and lion some more. Celia

Great work on the "rivets" on the tin dog. Great work. And if that's your first time at Apoxie Sculpt, rest assured, you only learn from each time you use it. Does it stick to your fingers? Keep a small cup of water nearby to wet your fingers. Everything looks very well thought out and time consuming......my kind of project. I love it!

Great job!!! It's funny becuase I did a set back before customs became so popular (along with lots of other ideas like the nativity scene ) with all the new ideas. I wasn't using paint or apoxie sculpt at the time. I actually put a Kelly Dorothy with the animals. It didn't sell, so I wound up keeping them. I put wings on the monkey and made him a flying monkey and hand made all their costumes with fabrics and things. Your set looks really cute I can't wait to see them when they are done. I love the little shoes you put on Dorothy.
I just read that you've only painted one other animal ever? Great JOB!!!
