Hi, I read about your hip flexors and your lack of agility because of the flexors. I'm 38. I have arthritis up and down my neck to tail bone and flexibility is almost impossible with fusing vertebraes; however, I started going into the steam room for 10-20 minutes at a time and stretching each time a little further. The hot tub to start warming up the entire leg and hip. Totally funny, when I started to be happily touching my shins and squinting and breathing to reach the little hair a few mm's away. Whistle, Whistle, Whistle...what a goof. And now, my wrists can reach the bottoms of my feet in the stretched out sitting position. I never in my wildest dreams thought I could ever touch my feet let alone a foot further. Every so often when I don't go, I regress a little, but it's really quick to progress once your body records itself doing it in the first place. Great for your back too! Love your posts. That's cool that you've gotten so much more flexible, Joan. I definitely can tell that I've gotten more flexible in the 10 months that I've been training. It's just those hips that are stubborn. I bet a steam room or hot tub would be a great help. I'm glad you like my posts. Sometimes I tend to drone...

Sorry to hear about you head/neck Carol. I will be praying that you fell better soon and can get back to your karate! Very the nice pictures! Mr.S looks like a very kind guy. Thanks so much, Kathryn. I hope it eases up soon too. Mr. S. is awesome!! I really like our Senseis too, but Mr. S. is not quite so intimidating. They don't mean to be intimidating, but they are so good at karate, that they can be intimidating without even trying. Mr. S. is really good too, but he's not as high of a black belt as they are. And since he's older, he's not quite as flexible and stuff, so I can relate to him better. He's so cool. You're probably too young to know of Joan Jett (singer, big in the 80s.) But he has a funny story of when she came to town in the late 70s before she hit it big, and they had a good time at a bar that she was performing at. It's his one claim to fame. He says she wrote a song about him, and we all laugh. Thanks again for thinking of me, sweetheart.

I took a karate class once, and I was very intimidated by the instructor [[or whatever you call them]] but he turned out being one of the nicest guys I have ever met! Yes, I have heard of Joan Jett. I like a couple of her songs. That's coll that Mr.S got to meat her! Kathryn

Your chiropractor or osteopath is right about the med giving you a headache. After awhile, your could body crave the pain relief and brings on the headache to get more of the relief. You mostly see this with Prescription Migraine Medication and then the person will be switched to a beta blocker to get off the MM without suffering from the HA. If I'm a coffee drinker, I would continue drinking my coffee or tea to keep my caffeine levels the same any less will increase my headache too. I would then crush up the over the counter a either dip the tip of my finger in the dust and put it under my tongue or sprinkle it on some honey if its too bitter. My body recognizes the drug without going into any withdrawal symptoms which can be increased headaches, nausea, cold sweats, etc. and without the full dose. I know sounds silly, but I am a migraine sufferer due to a disc in my neck that is better left out of joint than in joint. Everytime a physiotherapist found my neck out of joint, they would propose how to fix it, but the fixing was a sickening process of migraines, sweats, nausea, etc. Finally, my chiropractor said that it shouldn't be touched if I'm healthy with it out of joint. The muscles around the out of place joint obviously remember to be in the position as is. Now think how long it takes you to improve your muscle strength in your arms and legs when you go to the gym. These are major muscles used all day long. The neck holds the head in place. It would take 6 months to a year of major discipline to try and overcome the displacement. A whole lot of unnecessary suffering. The professionals may know their profession, but you know your body. If it hurts more after treatment or indifference, than its not working for your body. If there is some relief, than it possibly could be working in little steps. After following all the professional and all the naturopaths (Canada has lots), I have come to the realization that I can heal myself by disciplining myself to stretch all my muscles in the steam room. I, know, ridiculous, but I had to admit to someone, they were right, just last year. I went from 20 or more prescription drugs required for daily living down to 4 now. I'd probably still be on the latter if I hadn't consistently gone to the steam room 4 days/week, but its convenient with the pool. I don't swim, but do walk in the pool. Karate is probably your gem. Your body probably craves karate because of the stretching, strengthening, and moving. I hope you are feeling better. I would ask hottie Sensai about your neck because he probably can relate and direct you to the right healer for it. Take Care. Hope your pain eases away...I always keep a can of pop with all the extra caffeine (ie, red bull) if I wake up with a migraine, I drink 1/2 of it with an childrens aspirin (not for children) and voila in about an hour or 90 minutes, I will have a good 6 hours...unfortunately, it works for me and may not work for you. We are all so different but NOT.

Thanks SO much for sharing your experiences, Joan. I really appreciate it!!
I don't drink coffee, but I usually drink one caffeinated soda a day. And I'll certainly keep that up, because I usually notice if I don't.
I will probably talk to Senseis about any suggestions they have. They are big in really "believing" that you will be healed and concentrating really hard on it. They feel that has healed them in the past. Like, if your head hurts, then really concentrate your energy there, and supposedly it will help. Doctors have told them that what it actually does is send more blood flow there which does help. But that's been with injuries, like broken bones and muscle strains, etc. But it might help with this.
Thanks again for sharing. I will definitely be referring to this again.

Thanks so much for the well wishes, Kim, Sherry, Starchaser, and Little E. That little lamb is sooo cute!! Make me one, k?
I had high hopes this morning...I woke up in the least amount of pain that I've felt in 15 days! All last night when I would wake up, I could tell my head didn't hurt as much, there was more of an uncomfortable twinge in my shoulder/neck area. But certainly tolerable.
I moved slowly this morning, and things were going well. No headache. Just the shoulder twinge. But now it's 10:00 am, and the headache is back. I've been up and moving, I even had to shift a few books here at the library. I had to do some photocopying, etc. so I don't know if I aggravated it or what. But I can't lay in bed all day, so it had to be done.
But I still have hopes that because there was less pain this morning, that maybe it's on the mend. Maybe what the dr. did will help. I'm still hoping.
But, I'm not going to karate tonight, just to be safe. Plus, I heard that Sensei B. is going to shut all the windows and not allow us to have the fans on tonight, to "sweat out our impurities." Ummm...no. That's not gonna' happen when I'm already not feeling well and haven't trained in 2 weeks. Uh-uh. No siree. Maybe I'll go tomorrow night.
Thanks again, my friends. You guys are the best!!
