I think I've mentioned our 14 (almost 15) year old niece here before. I love her to death, but she has such a crappy life. I worry about her so much. We do all we can for her, but we live 45 minutes away and only see her on holidays and family birthdays. But we talk on the phone a lot. Anyway, she's growing up so fast!! It was recently our 5th year anniversary, and it made me realize Haley was only 9 when we met. So many changes in that time. Here's a recent picture, and I think one of the best pictures I've ever seen of her... We don't have kids of our own, but I feel she's our foster child. I wish she would live with us and get away from her bad influences...worry, worry, worry... Mrs. V (Carol)

What a sweet looking girl! Every teenage girl needs someone to look up to and be a mentor. She sure is lucky to have you! The teenageyears are rough ones especially in this day and age!

Thanks, guys. We really think the world of her, and I just hope that she can stay on the right path. She's such a good person though, I have faith that she will.
Thanks again for your compliments to her and me ;o)

So our niece is now 15 years old. She colored her hair darker a bit ago. I think it makes her look older. Either way I think is cute, but she doesn't like this now. She wants it lighter again. I told her it'll grow out. I think she was mad at whoever she was talking to on her phone. Probably some little punk that she's hung up on or something. I wish she'd forget about boys for a while. ;o) I took her to the dentist last week. She hadn't been for YEARS!! Why, you ask? Because her parents are negligent and stupid and don't seem to know how to raise kids. I can do a better job, and I don't even have kids of my own. Losers. I despise the both of them. (My brother-in-law and his ex-wife.) So anyway, she's not on our insurance plan, of course, but we decided we'd just pay out of pocket, because she needed to go and no one else was stepping up. She had one that hurt pretty bad. So, ends up, she has EIGHT cavities!! 8!! I couldn't believe it. She brushes her teeth everyday, usually twice, she says, but that's what happens when you don't get a professional cleaning for YEARS!!! So they are going to fill them all over 3 different times. The worst one will be one of the first filled. They say one is bad, but the other 7 aren't big ones. The exam cost about $160 and the grand total for all the fillings will be $935!!! We have the money in the savings, so it's not a huge deal. And she's certainly worth it, and it certainly needs to be done. I'm just annoyed at her family. I'm pretty sure that she has a public aid medical card that includes dental. But her guardian has to be the one to go with her, not us. And they haven't done that. And I'm not going to depend on them for anything. So we'll just take care of it. Like we did with her eye appt. and glasses and cell phone. I would just like to smack her parents. So I really need to be careful with our money for a bit. But I'm still bidding on Care Bear Cousins on eBay like an idiot!!! I'd better be careful!! At least we have my income (not great, but ok) great insurance for us, and my husband's disability checks. We're doing fine. I feel like Haley is our foster child, except that she doesn't live with us. I wish she did, but she doesn't want to move out of her hometown, crap-hole that it is. Full of white trash. Bad influences. Blah, blah, blah. Well, I mainly just wanted to post her more recent pictures, now that she's growing up. Boo hoo! Mrs. V (Aunt Carol)

She's so pretty. I like her hair dark! That dentist bill is stupid. Y'all are certainly generous. She's lucky to have you two in her life.

Your niece so so beautiful! I have glasses just like hers but mine are black. Aw, thanks so much. She really is beautiful, inside and out. I just worry and worry about her. She sent me a message on Wednesday telling me she's just gotten back from the ER because he throat had swollen up really badly. And they found out that she has a kidney infection. So she had to miss some school. That's not good this early on. I have no idea what the throat had to do with the kidney infection. She talks so fast sometimes and doesn't always make a lot of sense. You kind of have to decipher what she's talking about. I don't understand "teenager speak." In fact, I need to message her back and see how she is. She'd better not be out galavating around after being so sick. I worry, because I saw pictures on her friend's MySpace page of the both of them out after dark on a school night. Ugh. She should've been home. But she hates her home so much she doesn't want to be there. Well, here I go again, worrying. Thanks so much for the compliment about her LPS Girl. I didn't mean to go off on a tangent. Of course, now she tells me she'd like contacts next year. I figured that would be coming up. I think she's so cute in glasses, but none of her friends wear them, so... Mrs. V (Carol)

Here's a more recent picture of our niece with one of her friends. Haley is on the right. This was the night I was talking about. It was a weeknight, and they were at the playground after dark. I know, I know. She's 15, so I should not worry. But...she's 15!! And that's WHY I worry! ;D There were actually 3 pictures, and there were boys in one of them. The one where they were trying to take a picture of her boobs down her shirt! I shouldn't look at her MySpace page because it freaks me out. These boys are making comments about how sexy and "smokin'" she is and stuff. Bah! I'll kick their little scrawny trashy butts! Here was one comment from a kid: "ya i am and i dont like it i like to have a girl friend k im sexy ur beautiful" She must've asked if he was single Gawd! Their writing is atrocious. I don't even understand what they mean half the time. Stop it, Aunt Carol! You're going to drive yourself crazy. She knows right from wrong. She knows what's best for her and what's not. I'll just have to trust her. Well, I trust her, but them...not so much. You all know how that goes! My hubby says, "I was a teenage boy, remember? I KNOW what is going through teenage boys' minds!" Eeep!! Thanks again for the compliments, folks. She means so much to us. Mrs. V (Carol)

Carol, just try talking to her nicely. Tell her what you think about her myspace. Thanks, LPS Girl. I never lecture her or anything like that. I'm more like her friend than an authority figure, because I've only been "in the family" for about 6 years. So we were just "buds" from the beginning. She's gone from a scrappy little 9 year old tomboy to a very beautiful young lady. It's a little overwhelming for me sometimes. And her too, I'm sure. She told me tonight that she was going to a movie with this boy that has broken her heart numerous times. And she just keeps letting him back in to do it all over again. And he's got a girlfriend, by the way. But Haley and him are just hanging out "as friends" she says. I just want to smack him and make her realize he's no good. But eventually I guess she'll find out for herself. Hopefully before something even worse happens to her than a broken heart. Thanks again. Carol
